Cannabis Cultivations - know the signs

Police have recently received an increase in reports about properties suspected of being used to grow large quantities of cannabis. These setups often involve unsafe electrical wiring, fire risks, and exploitation of vulnerable people, so community awareness is important.

Below are some of the common signs neighbours have reported:

Windows permanently covered, blacked‑out or sealed from the inside

Strong, distinctive smells coming from the property

Excessive heat, for example, snow melting faster on the roof

Bright or unusual lighting at odd hours

High levels of condensation on windows

Constant noise from fans or ventilation systems

Frequent short visits at unusual times of day or night

Visible changes to the building such as ducting or makeshift wiring

Occupants rarely seen, despite signs the property is in use

If you notice several of these signs and have concerns, please report them to police on 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers. Do not attempt to investigate the property yourself.

We value information given to us by the public and often this can lead to some brilliant results. By building up intelligence, Police are normally able to secure warrants to search the property and will proactively deal with any offenders.
